How I Got Here:

In 2002 I read a book about the Camino de Santiago by Shirley MacLaine. It wasn’t until July, 2008 that I actually considered the possibility of  walking through Spain.

Due to an existing aortic aneurysm (2008) I thought it would be a good idea to check in with my surgeon at Stanford Medical Center in California for his opinion.

He ran some tests and after discussing the results the surgeon, Vern, and I decided that the smartest thing to do was to have the surgery. So on October 17, 2008 I began the entire process of surgery and healing.

The greatest motivator for doing my part to heal quickly was the fact that I had such a strong intention to walk 500 miles in Spain and just as an added incentive I purchased our airline tickets before the surgery to leave our home in May of 2009.

After announcing that I was being drawn to the Camino and that I would be walking it the following year, Vern contemplated the adventure and decided that he would also want to walk the pilgrim’s path.

At the same time, our good friends, Bob and Kathy were discussing and planning the walk from St. Jean Pied-de-Port, France.

In mid May of 2009 the four of us began our walk on the Camino de Santiago through the Pyrenees mountains.
